Acupuncture is a painless procedure, and it is common for 1 or 2 points to hurt, but it is mostly due to the initial prick of the needle without pain following. Let your practitioner know whenever you experience pain. It is normal to feel a heaviness, tingling, numbness, or a feeling of blood rushing when receiving acupuncture.

The needle is inserted very shallowly in thinner muscle areas, such as hands or feet; they do not go in very deep. However, in fleshier areas such as the glute muscle, it is normal for the needle to go in deeper.
Your practitioner is trained on proper depths upon insertion of the needles and will check in with you regularly to make sure you are comfortable.

In Chinese Medicine, we look at the body as a whole system and by looking at the tongue, we can diagnose what is going on within the body through the pulse. Each finger placement your practitioner uses is to see each organ and how they are functioning currently, along with the state of Qi and blood within the body. This helps formulate a diagnosis to treat the relative energy systems affected to improve the condition.

Like reflexology, the tongue is a microsystem that can reflect the state of the organs within the body and the body's overall condition. The practitioner will look at the coating of the tongue, the shape, the size, and the colour to help formulate a diagnosis to help treat your condition.
However, due to COVID-19 protocol, masks must be worn at all times in the clinic, so a picture of the tongue in natural sunlight, first thing in the morning before the intake of fluids or brushing your teeth is required. The nastier the tongue looks the better! Do not scrub off the coating before the picture.

Qi is a vital life force that keeps the body running, without it there would be no life. It is possible for some people to have deficiencies of Qi, feeling sluggish and tired, or to have an excess of Qi, restless, and energetic. The foods we eat can have a strong impact on Qi, eating too late in the day, or eating irregularly, eating a poor diet or eating under stress (emotional, mental, physical stress) can all affect how Qi will behave within the body. Qi is energy, and having a healthy balance of Qi ensures we have a diet to support the required intake of energy (Qi)
